I haven't been giving my posts their well worthy titles as the skin that i am using now does not show them. Better late then never i suppose. I'll just copy paste their title onto my posts. =)

Malay foodstuffs, British Cabbage, unreplied messages.

I don't think i could ever survive for more than a year without traditional, hot and spicy malay food. Ironically, my mom said that i had a western tongue as during my childhood, i tend to prefer western food as in fish and chips, steak, pasta and all the other angmoh delicacies. For some reason or another, i tended to feel proud each time my mother said that as it sort of gave the impression that i was unique and different from the rest of my family. I became what the malay people call as "bodoh sombong" or stupid and arrogant. I shied away from malay food. Thinking that it was too hot, too oily, too greasy and that it'll make me fat ( i was really fat and chubby back then). The moment of magic came during my Sec 3 years. For some reason, my tongue had had enough of the angmoh food that i was so fond of and told my brain that it was time to try out the food that was right under my nose, begging to be eaten the whole time.
My tongue tingled with glee, my eyes watered at the sweltering heat of the spice and my brain thanked itself for making me eat it and from then on i was hooked. Now, I am seldom called "orang jawe tak macam jawe kalau tak makan pedas" or a javanese?? person is not a javanese person if he/she doesn't like spicy food. Mind you, i did not embrace the whole jing-gang of traditional food. I still have me dislikes such as Laksa, Nasi goreng and Tempeh. So the next time if any of you invites me over for some malay food, dont be disheartened if i do not eat any of the above. =).

I saw that Floyd (Lloyd?) cooking show on Discovery Travel and Living and i discovered that British Cabbage was actually introduced to the British my the Romans when they were taken over. How cool is that...(i hear some italian guy gloating in the background) =). Oh how i long to be a cook/chef. Now i have second thoughts on whether should i join the culinary course at TP. I am not too sure right now. Maybe ill just have to discuss it then with my parents later on and see if i have any future in it.

I started to get worried. But it was actually a false alarm. =). Happy times. happy times.
